Jeanne A. Wonnell, 92, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Commons of Providence Assisted Living, Sandusky, OH. Jeanne was born on December 04, 1923 in Catawba Island, the daughter of Basil and Pearl (Klenk) Stevens. She graduated from Robinwood Hospital School of Nursing in 1945 in Toledo, Ohio and became a Registered Nurse. Jeanne was the head school nurse for Port Clinton City Schools, retiring in 1987. On October 02, 1947 in Port Clinton, she married, Gerald W. Wonnell and he preceded her in death on March 12, 2006. Jeanne was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church and a member of the Thursday Study Club, Naomi Circle and the Mother’s Roundtable. She was a member of the oral history committee of the Ottawa County Historical Society, Ottawa Co. retired nurses, Port Clinton High School retired teachers, initial advisor for Future Professionals in Medicine, regular volunteer at The Gathering and a den mother for cub scouts. Jeanne was an avid reader, a gardner, oil painter, seamstress, wrote short stories, poetry, made teddy bears and dolls and flew an airplane. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Those left to cherish her memory are her 3 Children: David (Donna) Wonnell, Daniel (Jane) Wonnell and Susan (Dennis) Charvat; Grandchildren: Sarah Wonnell & Abigail Wonnell, Daniel (Megan) Wonnell & Stephanie (Nate) Wonnell and Laura (Britani) Charvat & Jennifer (Brent) Small and Sister-In-Law: Sue Stevens. Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers: Robert & Warren Stevens. Visitation will be from 5-8PM, Sunday, July 17, 2016 in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton, OH 43452. A Memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Dr. James Lehman at 11:00AM, Monday, July 18, 2016 in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
