Jeanne L. Parker, born in Monclova, OH, in 1932, grew up on a family farm located in Monclova and attended Monclova schools, serving as class president, and graduating high school in 1950. Jeanne met her future husband, Charles F. Parker in the 3rd grade, and they were voted Most Popular Couple as seniors in high school. They participated in a dance class in high school and enjoyed dancing together throughout their years of marriage. After Charlie returned from the army they married in Waterville, August 20,1955. Jeanne sang actively in Maumee area churches since the age of thirteen, singing in area choirs as soloist and choir member. As an adult, she was an associate member of Monday Musicale and performed with the Toledo Choral Society and then the Toledo Symphony Chorale. Since 1960 she has been a choir member and soloist at Maumee United Methodist Church, singing on Sunday mornings, and for weddings and funerals until recently when it became difficult for her to easily walk.
Jeanne was a talented seamstress, cook and pianist. No sewing project or alteration was too difficult, and she was a stickler for detail and a precise fit. She enjoyed her embroidery machine and the opportunity to personalize items, serve her church with quilt squares and create meaningful gifts. Jeanne’s cooking skills were amazing, whether feeding a few, or many. She loved entertaining with dishes that would entice and delight, and for a short time was co-operator of a catering business. She often talked about how her brother paid for her piano lessons, when she was in grade school while he served in the military. After only 3 years of lessons, she became adept at sight-reading music, and played piano for her own enjoyment as well as for others regularly and right up to the week before her passing.
Jeanne worked at Maumee High School for more than 20 years, retiring in 1993. She first supported Maumee High School staff as the guidance counselor secretary, then as secretary to Principal Lee Black. She served as a volunteer seamstress and designer for the Drama Club and was always willing to lend her talents to school events and projects. She made life-long friends with staff, teachers and students that volunteered for her or needed assistance.
Through the years Jeanne was an active member of Indian Hills Boat Club, Lamplighters Dance Club, United Methodist Women, Toledo Symphony Orchestra Chorale, Maumee-BGSU Elks Lodge No.1850 (serving on the Student of the Month Committee), Maumee UMC and volunteering at St. Lukes Hospital. In 2008 Jeanne was awarded an Honorary Membership to Indian Hill Boat Club for her many years of service as the club Chaplain.
