Jeanette Kathryn (Schwan) Thornton, 86, from Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Kingston Senior Living of Perrysburg early on January 4, 2026. Jeanette was born January 21, 1939, the sixth of seven children to John and Ruby (Marriott) Schwan. She graduated from Maumee High School. She was known as a good athlete and loved working at the Maumee Theater.
It was in 1959 that Jeanette would marry Harold Thornton. They shared 60 years together until his passing in 2020. Jeanette was well known for her 20 years of service as a dispatcher for the Perrysburg Police Department - boy, did she have some stories.
Jeanette leaves behind two sons, Todd (Jill) Thornton and Steve (Lori Dewyre) Thornton, along with four beloved grandchildren, Kevin Thornton, Erica (Andy) Gierhart, Emily (Eric) Hufford, and Ben (Becca) Thornton; two beautiful great-granddaughters, Peyton and Quinn Gierhart. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Marsha Shirley, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers John and Tom, and her sisters Alice, Caroline, and Francis.
Jeanette will be fondly remembered for her love of family, friends, crosswords, and a good book, but not for her cooking.
In her memory, she asked for donations to be made to The Way Public Library.
