Jean Widmer, 88, of Genoa, passed away quietly on October 31, 2016. She was born July 13, 1928, to Emma (Wood) and Frank Shessler. She was a graduate of Genoa High School and attended Kent State University. After school she worked at the Genoa telephone office as an operator and later worked for a short time at the Genoa Post Office. In 1948 Jean married Robert Widmer, her high school sweetheart. Together they raised four children with Jean being a homemaker for many years. She was a member of the Eastern Stars, Genoa Firettes and Genoa Christian Church, where she was the official noodle maker for the churchs annual Beef Noodle Dinner. After retiring as a playground aide for the Genoa Camper building, she and her husband spent many summers at their cabin in Canada. They hosted many friends and family there. Surviving Jean are her children, Jackie Tronge, Jennie (Terry) Wicks, Dan (Laura) Widmer and Don (Cathy) Widmer, 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Barb Riley and sister-in-law, Betty Widmer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and sisters, Yvonne Tester and Francis Kemp. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2016, at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The funeral service will be conducted 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Genoa Christian Church, 415 Main St., Genoa, with interment to follow in Clay Township Cemetery. Memorials for Jean may be given to the Genoa Christian Church or the Cherry Street Mission, 105 17th St., Toledo, OH 43604.
