Jean L. Schultz of Monclova Township was born on November 19, 1929, to George Willis and Olive Zollars Lumley. She died August 16, 2011 in her home with her daughter at her side. She graduated from Whitney High School, majoring in Business, in 1947. She was married to Robert Schultz on January 26, 1952. She earned her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Toledo and graduated in 1952. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. While a full time student, she worked at various jobs including Gross Electric and the Kuhlman Corporation. She started her teaching career at Maumee High School, briefly taught at Rogers High School and then junior high school at Fort Miami in Maumee before returning to Maumee High School. While teaching full time, she earned her Masters degree from the University of Toledo After teaching for over 30 years, she retired in 1987 but continued to work for 15 years at H&R Block as a tax preparer. She was active in American Association of University Women AAUW, including the Wemmer Trust Fund as Treasurer. This fund provided college scholarships to women enrolled at the University of Toledo. She was also active in the Maumee Elks and St. Petri Lutheran Church. At St. Petri, she was involved with the scholarship committee, auditor, greeter, and lector. She was a volunteer at Sherman Elementary in Toledo where she and other retired teachers helped children learn to read. She enjoyed her family, playing bridge, golf, cooking, reading, and was in several book and investment clubs. She was an avid sports fan, especially basketball. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert. She is survived by her son, Eric, and daughter, Kristine Dowgiert. She has two granddaughters, Shawna and Sheila Dowgiert, and one great granddaughter, Mackenzie Howard. Family and friends may visit Thursday, August 18, 2011 from 2-9 pm in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee where funeral services will be held Friday, August 19, 2011 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, St. Petri Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund, or the Wemmer Trust Fund.
