Jean Rutan

Jean Rutan, 88 of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Monday, January 5, 2009 at her residence in Port Clinton, OH. Jean was born April 6, 1920 in Port Clinton, OH at home to the late Rosina Nissen and Ruel Crawford. On March 22, 1974, Jean married Peter Rutan, who passed away, December 18, 2007. She was a teacher who taught in Ontario Schools, Fostoria and Port Clinton, where most of her teaching years were spent with the 7th 8th graders. Jean also had 11 years of business experience and was a swimming instructor and life guard for more than 10 years. She retired in July of 1980. Jean was an avid blood donor for the American Red Cross. She was a lifetime member of the Port Clinton Yacht Club, where her father was a founder. Jean had a love for sailing, receiving her first sailboat at the age of 15, as a gift from her brother, Robert. She had a passion for cooking and flowers. Jean will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Jean is survived by her grandson: Nathan Snyder; nephews: John Crawford and Tom Crawford; special care givers: Ann Marie Sigurdson of 17 years, Julie Lindemann and Michelle Gaines and brother-in-law: Art Mary Ann Rutan. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter: Kristi Benham, brother: Robert Dudley Crawford and sister: Helen Crawford. At Jeans request, cremation has taken place, there will be visitation on Friday, January 9, 2008 from 4-8PM, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home and Crematory, Port Clinton, OH. Memorial contributions in memory of Jean may be given to any Humane Society for Jeans love of animals or North Central EMS.
