Jean C. Chandler Polk

May 2, 1926 — July 13, 2012

Jean C. Polk, 86, of Perrysburg passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. She was born in Mt. Hope, WV on May 2, 1926 to Allen and Vella (Lawson) Chandler and was a 1944 graduate of Mt. Hope High School. During WWII, Jean worked in Washington, DC at the Army Annex assisting families in filing insurance claims for their loved ones. Jean loved square dancing and it was at a dance where she met Albert Polk, Jr. whom she married on January 22, 1949 in Angola, Indiana. Upon returning to the Toledo area, Jean began working as a secretary for L.O.F. in Rossford until devoting her time to raising her children. She then later returned to work for United Way in home health care. She was a bus driver and worked in the cafeteria for Rossford Schools. Jean loved spending time with her family and friends, reading especially her Bible. Throughout her life, she danced and shared her fun loving personality and joy with those around her. She was a member of the Riverview Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Northwood. She is survived by her daughters, Carlaann Stiles, Dorothy (Andrew) Benson, Paula Howe, Sheree Hope all of Maumee, and Anna May Golden of Florida; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Fowler of SC. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Albert Polk, III; granddaughter, Andrea Hope; three brothers and three sisters. There will be no public visitation and private family graveside services will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park.
