Jean Henderson

Jean Henderson passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 27 at Ebeid Promedica Hospice in Sylvania. Jean was born on December 7, 1938. She was the daughter of James and Gladys Bennett of Fort Wayne IN. Jean graduated from Fort Wayne Southside High School in 1957 with honors. She was executive secretary at Metropolitan Life Insurance of Fort Wayne IN. In 1960 Jean married Al Henderson Jr. and they eventually moved to Temperance MI in 1965 ultimately moving to Rockdale Lane in Sylvania OH in 1969 with three loving daughters. Jean devoted her life to raising her daughters, Jill (David) Miller of Ann Arbor MI, Amy Henderson of Toledo and Laura (Steve DeLoach) Henderson of Carrboro, NC. Jean loved living on Rockdale Lane. She had many neighborhood friends with the same goals of raising wonderful children. Jean would walk her daughters to school at Highland Elementary and they would come home in the summertime for lunch in the backyard. It was a wonderful place to raise children. A beautiful blessing for Jean was the addition of three loving grandchildren, Daniel and Allison Miller of Ann Arbor MI and Henry DeLoach of Carrboro, NC. Jean looked forward to many family gatherings at our condo in Sylvania. Her family was the love of her life and she would go out of her way to help everyone feel at home and have a good time. Chocolate ice cream was Jean’s favorite treat. An example of putting her family first, while vacationing at Coldwater Lake her oldest daughter caught 6 or 7 fish and Jean while never touching a fish learned from a neighbor how to clean fish. The family enjoyed a fried fish dinner that night thanks to Jean’s efforts. She was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ of Sylvania. The family will have a family gathering to celebrate Jean’s life later. Burial will be at Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania. Contributions may be made to Promedica Hospice or the Toledo Humane Society.
