Jean Gercak

Jean (Martin) Gercak passed away suddenly on October 5, 2015, at Flower Hospital. She was born January 23, 1933 in Toledo to George and Helen (Dunnigan) Martin. Jean attended St. Agnes Grade School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1951. Jean married John S. Gercak on February 23, 1957 and they had four children, John (Lyn) Gercak, Cathy (Ron) Draheim, Ellen (Brent) Welker, and James Gercak. Jean worked for Dana Corporation for 30 years and after retirement continued to work part-time, filling in as needed. She was a member of the Salesian Club, where she was a past president, and the Toledo Area Dana Retiree Association, serving on the board as secretary for many years. Jean was a volunteer at St. Annes Hospital, Christ the King Church, and the Franciscan Center. Although she was very proud of her Irish heritage, Jean enjoyed the summer church festivals and the Polish music. She liked to dance the Polka, play Bingo, and was an avid sports fan. Jean and her husband, John, took many trips together including visits to Europe, England, and Hawaii and several cruises. In addition to her husband, John and their children, Jean is survived by grandchildren, Matthew Braun, Mitchell and Kayla Gercak; Natalie and Daniel Draheim; and Megan, Lauren, and Riley Welker. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Margaret Connor and Charlotte Ragg. Visitation will be Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 3-8:00 pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) with a Rosary service at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will begin Friday, October 9, 2015 with 9:30 am prayers at the funeral home followed by Mass at 10:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, OH 43623. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association of Northwest Ohio, 2500 Reynolds Rd. Toledo, OH 43615.
