Janice Ann "Jan" Labine

April 20, 1935 — June 18, 2022

Janice (Jan) LaBine, of Bowling Green, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, June 18, 2022. Her husband of 65 years, Leonard ‘Bud’ LaBine was at her bedside when she passed.

Born on April 20, 1935, in Toledo, OH, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Esther (Schwieterman) Dunlap.

Jan was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Toledo and went on to earn her Bachelor of Education (Art and History) degree from the University of Toledo, where she was a member of the Tri-Delta Sorority and graduated Magna Cum Laude.  Her grade school years were spent at Gesu School, where she met lifelong friends with whom she connected throughout her lifetime.  She often spoke of her summer after college, working as the cook at the lodge on Mount Assiniboine in the Canadian Rockies, which was quite a feat given that she didn’t know how to cook when she accepted the job!  Jan’s degree in the Arts fueled a lifetime of involvement in fine arts, including: teaching art, serving as a docent at the Toledo Museum of Art, continuing her study and practice of pottery, drawing and painting throughout her life, and instilling art appreciation (and fun art projects!) in her children.  Never was a museum tour so interesting, as one spent with Jan LaBine…  Her volunteer efforts were not limited to the arts, as she also worked at the Toledo Zoo as a docent for several years.  Her other loves were travel and touching people around the world, as she did with hosting multiple foreign exchange students through Youth for Understanding, where she also served as Regional Director.  The bonds created through and with those students continue to this day, with regular exchanges and visits with former students and their families.  The world is left a better place because of Jan LaBine.

Jan is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Leonard ‘Bud’ LaBine, her four children and their spouses – Michelle and husband Steve Studebaker, Bill and wife Susan Scott, John and wife Lisa Sebastian, and Brian and his wife Barbara Newman.  She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren – Kelly (husband Tony Geraci), Elizabeth (husband Adam Kohler), Robert (wife Lindsey Pecce), Annie, Kathryn, David, Claire, Benjamin, Allison and Gregory – along with 2 great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Jordan.

In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her brother Robert and Sister Kay, and infant son Charles Nicholas.
