Janet Ruby (Simpkins) Havener

Janet Ruby (Simpkins) Havener went to her heavenly home Monday, August 7 at 3:20 pm in her home, surrounded by her family. She was loved by so many because of her compassionate heart for others. She loved to bring people into her home for meals when they had no family of their own. Her love and devotion for her family was unsurpassed! She had a strong commitment to her church and pastors.

Ruby was a graduate of Port Clinton High School. She worked for the News Herald in both the Fremont and Port Clinton offices as a proofreader and then an office clerk for thirty-eight years. She loved collecting dolls, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and reading.

Ruby was the daughter of William and Georgia (Mullens) Simpkins and was born in Latham, Ohio. She was married to Emerson “Benny” Havener who preceded her in death. She had four sisters, Jackie Richter, June Austin, Joan Kirkland, Kay Simpkins, and one brother, William Simpkins, all of whom preceded her in death. She has three daughters, Teresa (Henry) Smith from Cicero, IN, Lori (Terry) Ferguson from Sylvania, OH, and Amy (Dave) Layman from Montpelier, OH. She has one son, Russell Havener (Judy) from Port Clinton. She has 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, August 14 at the Bible Methodist Church, 150 Maple Street, Port Clinton. Visitation will begin at 11:30 am, and her service will be at 1:00 pm, with burial at Riverview Cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, Ruby has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Bible Methodist Church in Port Clinton or the Independent Nazarene Church in Beech Grove, IN. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com
