Janet Marie Northrup

Northrup Janet Marie Becker Janet Marie Becker Northrup, age 73, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009, in her home after a six month battle with brain cancer. Janet was graduated from Libbey High School in 1954 and then continued her education at the University of Toledo where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Business Education. Janet began her teaching career at Whitney High School in 1958. In 1960, she became an assistant professor at the University of Toledo, teaching Business Education. Janet was named Outstanding Teacher of the Year at the University of Toledo in 1976. In 1983, the Ohio State Business Education Association named Janet, The Educator of the Year. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Reeves; mother, Reva Becker; father, Fred Becker; and her brother, Fred Becker. She is survived by her three children, Reeves Grant II Amy, Grant Jennings, and Ann Marie Jim Lachey; eight grandchildren, Abigail, Reeves III, Victoria, Paige, Emily, Ali, James, and Luke; sisters-in-law, JoAnne Becker and Robin Carter Roy; along with seven nieces and nephews. Just as Janet was a devoted caregiver throughout her husbands illness, Janets children and dear friends cared for her during her final months and days. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 2-5:00pm and 7-9:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd.. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Epworth United Methodist Church, 3077 Valleyview Dr. off of Central Avenue.
