Janet R. Cothrel passed over peacefully to meet her Lord on January 8, 2016, at the age of 83. Born in Toledo on September 11, 1932, Janet attended Devilbiss High School and the University of Toledo, where she was a Pi Beta Phi and majored in physical education. After meeting her husband Paul while teaching in Mason, Michigan, Janet settled into a long and successful career teaching in the Evergreen school district and raising her family. She was a lifelong member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was very active over the years in choir, Ruth Circle, Sunday school, the library, and many other aspects. In her retirement, she was an avid volunteer at the Wildwood Manor House and she and Paul enjoyed traveling around the U.S. Janet is survived by her loving husband, Paul; children, Steve (Michele) Cothrel, Timothy Cothrel, and Andrew (Janette) Cothrel; and grandchildren, Max, Helen, Cormick, Amanda, Grant, and Sophia. Janet was preceded in passing by her parents, Robert and Ethel Smith of Toledo; sister, Roberta Crawford; and brother, Richard Smith. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 15, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave (west of Corey Rd.), Toledo, OH 43623. On Saturday, January 16, there will be a brief visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the Grace Lutheran Church, 4441 Monroe St., Toledo, OH 43613, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM and interment at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.
