Jane W. Ockuly, age 92, passed away September 2, 2016 at Ebeid Hospice. Jane was born March 17, 1924 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Harold and Oetta (Snyder) Walbright. She graduated as the Valedictorian in the Class of 1941 from Portsmouth East High School. She obtained her B.S. degree in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing and Health in 1945. It was there that she met her husband Dr. John Ockuly. They were married in August 1947. Jane received many honors while in college. She was a class officer for three years, a member of the Nursing Tribunal, and was elected president of the student body her senior year. She graduated at the top of her class and was in the 1945 edition of, Whos Who in American Colleges and Universities. In the first 10 years of her marriage she was employed in different fields of her profession, but mostly in surgical nursing. After moving to Toledo she became a full time wife and mother. Jane did volunteer work with Mobile Meals for 30 years and also worked on the United Appeal Campaign. She was truly a lover of all sports, both as a spectator and participant. She played tennis and golf for many years and was a great fan of her beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. Jane was a member of Gesu Church, The Toledo Zoo, The Toledo Museum of Art, The Academy of Medicine Auxiliary, and a lifetime member of Sylvania Country Club. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Sharon Ockuly-Friedrich (John) of Powell, Ohio and Dr. Joan Ockuly (Jill Sass) of Toledo, son, James Ockuly of Toledo, special daughters, Kathy Williams and Julie Hegeler of New York, NY, niece, Lynn Walbright of New Jersey, nephew, Phil Walbright of Zanesfield, Ohio, and all of her other nieces and nephews on the Ockuly side. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, brother, Harold Walbright, and infant sister, Barbara Walbright. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave, (west of Corey Rd.) Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Gesu Catholic Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd, Toledo OH. Interment will be private. The family would like to extend great thanks to the staff at both Flower Hospital and Ebeid Hospice, for the loving care provided to their mother in her last days. You all were magnificent, and your compassion and professionalism was truly appreciated.
