Jane Lucy Knorr, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 91 surrounded by her loving family on March 29, 2014. Jane was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 10, 1922 to Clarence and Alma Snyder Hammer. After graduating from Thomas A. DeVilbiss High School in 1940 she began her education at the University of Toledo. Her education was put on hold following her marriage to musician Johnny Knorr, and her role as homemaker and mother. After receiving an inheritance from her father, she returned to The University and completed her degree in Education. Jane was an elementary teacher in the Toledo School System until her retirement. Jane happily supported her husbands musical career from the onset even making red vests that were the bands first official uniform. Throughout the years she was a presence at many of the orchestras functions but is best known as the Lady With the Lights. While helping Johnny run Centennial Terrace she would always compliment her hat with a string of lights. That made it easy for Johnny and the staff to locate her in the crowd when she was needed. She enjoyed playing the piano, knitting, and crocheting. Jane also enjoyed showing her collection of hundreds of salt and pepper shakers that lined her upper kitchen cupboards, shelving , and curio cabinets. Visitors were ushered into the Lincoln Room to view her antique canopy bed. There is a 50/50 chance the President Abraham Lincoln slept in the bed while staying at the Oliver House in Toledo. Jane was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, Order of Eastern Star, and Dendarah Court L.O.S.N.A Surviving are her son, Gerald Emilie Knorr, daughter, Janice Orville Wilcox; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Jane was preceded in death by her husband of almost 70 years, bandleader Johnny Knorr; brother Clarence Hammer, and twin sister Jean Malcom. Friends may call at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W.
