Jane Cartey Huber, age 96, of Maumee, OH passed away on August 12, 2011. Born Jane Minerva Cartey in Chicago, IL on May 4, 1915 to Paul and Charlotte Cartey. The Carteys moved to Cleveland, OH in 1920. Janes only sibling, her sister Alice, was born five years later. Jane attended Harcourt Place then Case Western Reserve until she enlisted in the Army in 1942, where she served three years as a Surgical Technician. She met her husband, Norman V. Huber, while she was stationed at the Army Hospital in Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX. Norman was stationed at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, NM, about 90 miles north of El Paso. Soon after they were both honorably discharged in 1946, they married and settled in Maumee, OH for the rest of their lives. From their union came two daughters, Gail and Martha. Also, Jane loved and was very much loved by her honorary great-granddaughter, Emma. Norman preceded Jane in death, just shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. The Maumee St. Pauls Episcopal Church was a very important part of Janes Life. She belonged to the Altar Guild, taught Sunday School, member of the Evening Guild and was one of their favorite Auctioneers for their rummage sales; as Jane could always bring humor, excitement and create a story from simple everyday incidents. Jane also belonged to the Riverview Garden where she was past president, the Maumee Historical Society and its guild, the Toledo Museum of Art and Kate Jamiesons Group. She loved life and people and was loved and appreciated by many in return. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 310 Elizabeth Street, Maumee, OH.
