James A. Wolf

James A. Wolf, 85, of Port Clinton, OH died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 16, 1924 in Port Clinton, OH to William F. and Clara A. Hoffman Wolf. On December 10, 1944 in Malden, MO he married Grace L. Talkington and she survives. James served in the U.S. Army Air Force, 62nd Troop Carrier Group, as a pilot for Matthew B. Ridgeway from 1942-1946. From 1946-1964 he worked as a licensed funeral director and embalmer and became a partner in the Gerner-Wolf Funeral Home with his father and brother. From 1964-1984 he operated the Wolf Furniture Store. James was a member and past Commodore of the Port Clinton Yacht Club, Port Clinton Elks, Port Clinton American Legion, Port Clinton VFW life member, Kiwanis Club, past president of the Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce, member of the Past Commodores Club, and 10:00 a.m. Coffee Club. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, and traveling. He was also a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton. In addition to his loving wife of 64 years, Grace, he is survived by his daughters: Gene Elaine Don Heinzerling and Linda John Gluth, Sr.; granddaughters: Juleah {Mattox} Tom Clunk and Jacque {Mattox}Aaron Brown; great granddaughters: Olivia, Hanna, Morgan, and Mallory; step-grandchildren; great grandchildren; sister: Mary Alice Streeter; and nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother: Leah Wolf, brothers: Richard Wolf, George Wolf, and Thomas McRitchie. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father John Missler and Father Raymond Ensman at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton. Prayers will be offered at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 30, 2009 from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton. Interment will be at a later date in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Memorial contributions may be given to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Stein Hospice.
