James Harold Wenzinger

James Harold Wenzinger, age 86, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away on September 15, 2026. He was born on February 15, 1940, in Defiance, Ohio to Dr. Harold and Mary Cyrilla Wenzinger. After the tragic death of his parents and sister, Mary Jo, in 1955 he moved to Port Clinton with his guardians Marge and Keith Montgomery.

Jim was a member of the Port Clinton High School Class of 1958. He attended John Carroll University and graduated from The Defiance College where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon and held pin #2.

Jim married Barbara Stankov in 1963, Cleveland Ohio. After living in Coshocton, Ohio they moved to Port Clinton in 1970 to raise their family. In 1990 he achieved his CFP certification and established a firm specializing in financial planning and investments.

Jim believed deeply in giving back to his community. He was a member of Kiwanis, the Elks, Knights of Columbus, and Colonial Club. He also served as secretary at the Port Clinton Yacht Club, was a member of the Private Industry Council, and served on the Board of Trustees at the Vineyard. Jim was among the organizers of the Immaculate Conception School Endowment Fund, an effort that reflected his commitment to supporting future generations. He also served his church as a communion distributor and on the parish nurse committee.

Jim enjoyed a competitive game of golf and fish frys with his extended family when they visited, and he relished a tasty fried walleye cheek. Jim had a passion for his meticulously maintained wooden Lyman and insisted on fishing trips and cruises to the islands for his guests. He appreciated a good Mount Gay and Sprite, and as host he would jokingly guarantee to one and all that he was only making the first drink, and after that "you were on your own." Dominoes and Wenzinger family gatherings have been a constant over time, and anyone sitting downstream of Jim after the first round of Mexican Train wished they had picked a different seat; it was often a family game of musical chairs before domino competitions with the last person to the room left with only the one choice of sitting next to Jim.

Jim is survived by his wife Barbara of 63 years. Children Mary Jo (Perry) Beason, Matthew (Julie) Wenzinger, Kurt (Robin Wahlers) Wenzinger, Anne (John) Wellik. Grandchildren Cassandra (Brandon) Oakley, Holly Wenzinger, Rachael Wenzinger, Aubrey Wenzinger, Ian Lyle, Bailey Beason, Christopher Beason, Dean Wellik, Joseph Wellik. Great grandchildren Collin, Emma and Carter Oakley. Siblings John (Laura) Wenzinger, Reverend George Wenzinger, Thomas (Jeanne) Wenzinger. Special cousins Patrick (Glenda) Montgomery, Brian (Perry ) Montgomery, Laurie (Ed) Zimmer.
