James Hugh Dr. Webb

J. Hugh Webb, M.D., 90, of Toledo, OH, died on Thursday, April 19, 2012. He was born October 11, 1921 near Nelsonville, Ohio, to Dr. J. Lester and Dorothy C. Webb. He graduated from Nelsonville High School and received his B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University and M.D. degree from University of Cincinnati. He completed his internship at the Cincinnati General Hospital. He served two years in the U.S. Navy. He received his graduate degree in neurosurgery and completed his neurosurgical residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He was elected to the Mayo Foundation Chapter of the Society of the Sigma Xi, a scientific research group. Dr. Webb practiced neurosurgery in Toledo starting in 1953, was Chief of Neurosurgeryat Toledo Hospital for 30 years, Associate Clinical Professor at the former Medical College of Ohio, and served as Secretary and President of the Ohio State Neurosurgical Society. He was a member ofthe American College of Surgeons, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the Harvey Cushing Society. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He had a deep love of opera and classical music, studied world history, was a world traveler, and an avid pilot who enjoyed many hours of flying. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Emma S. Webb, in 2008. He is survived by his two children, Susan Tim Lawrence and Richard Francoise Webb; and grandchildren Ben Lawrence, Jennifer Lawrence Merkley, Peter-Michael Webb and Henry Webb. A memorial service will held on Sunday May 6, 2012 at 2:00 pm in Christ Presbyterian Church. Interment will be private.
