James C. Vandertill

James C. Vandertill, 94, of Perrysburg, Ohio died Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Kingston of Perrysburg. He was born January 21, 1924 to Orrie H. and Elizabeth (Blok) Vandertill in Pleasant Ridge, Michigan. He graduated from Royal Oak High School and began his studies at Michigan Technological University. James served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during WWII, stationed in the Philippines and Japan. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Michigan Tech, graduating in 1948 with his B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked for 35 years in the chemical distribution industry. He married Marian D. (Tullis) Vandertill on October 29, 1954 and they were happily married for 58 years, until her death on December 19, 2012. James enjoyed golfing, competing in the Ohio Senior Olympics and playing bridge with his wife and friends. He was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan. James is survived by his son, Jonathan (Kimberly) Vandertill of Chagrin Falls, OH; daughter, Martha Vandertill of Perrysburg, OH; grandsons, Jim (fiancée, Ashley), Ben, Tom and Mike Vandertill. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Vandertill. A private service will be held at Toledo Memorial Park.
