James J. Teachey, age 91, of Sylvania, died July 19, 2018 at St. Annes Hospital. Jim was born February 6, 1927 in Wilson, NC to the late William and Pauline (Granger) Teachey. He proudly served in Italy in the U.S. Army during World War II and went on to graduate from High Point College with degrees in Chemistry and Math. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Corallie and was a devoted husband during their 61 year marriage. Jim worked his entire career of more than 35 years as a Chemist with DuPont. An avid traveler both in the U.S. and abroad, Jim resided in Brazil for 2 enjoyable years while with DuPont. In his free time, Jim enjoyed reading, taking care of himself with exercise and inventive tinkering to create things with his own hands. He also wrote poetry. He was a charter member of McCord Road Christian Church. Jim will be fondly remembered for his steady, consistent approach to life and his attention to detail in all things, including his carefully planned dress attire. He was a loving and devoted husband, dad and granddaddy. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Mike (Patti) Teachey, Mindy Teachey, Julie (Jerry) Quinonez, Suzanne (Steve Tidwell) Teachey and Patricia Teachey; grandchildren, Jade, Shane, Jason, Wesley, Carmen and Christina; and great grandsons, Everett and Oliver. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Corallie in 2010; and a brother, William Granger Teachey. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m., Monday, July 23, 2018 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) and conclude with funeral services at 7:00 p.m. Military honors and interment will be held privately on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
