James J. Suszka

James (Jim) J. Suszka, 91, passed away peacefully at his home in Clemson S.C. on Thursday, May 5, 2022. Jim was born on February 26, 1931, to Melvin and Josephine Suszka and lived in Toledo for 87 years before moving to S.C. to be closer to family.

Jim graduated from Woodward High School and Bowling Green State University followed by an MBA from Eastern Michigan. His career started at Waite High School as a teacher and basketball coach; then continued as an administrator with the Toledo Public Schools. Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He had many friends and enjoyed keeping in touch with them. At 91, he was still playing golf and watching sports with Esther C. Suszka, his wife of sixty-five years.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Susan (Stephen) Mihaly; son, James (Patricia) Suszka Jr.; grandsons, Stephen Mihaly III and James Suszka III; granddaughters, Stephanie (Raphael) Fernandes, Margaret Suszka and Madeliene Suszka.

Friends may gather at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, Ohio (just west of Corey Road) on Friday, May 13, 2022, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. On Saturday, May 14, 2022, there will be an additional gathering beginning at 10:00 am, followed by a short service at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to the charity of the donor’s choice or to the Oconee Memorial Hospital Foundation, designated to Cancer Institute – Seneca Fund, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC 29672.
