James M. Stammen, age 77, of Toledo, died February 28, 2018 at Flower Hospital. Jim was born February 6, 1941 in Dayton to the late Emil and Margaret (Zimmer) Stammen. He graduated from Chaminade High School and served in the United States Navy from 1959-63. Jim began his working career with Monumental Insurance Co. in Dayton before serving as the Regional Service Manager in the tool division area with Rockwell International. In 1982 he founded Power Tool Sales and Service in Toledo which he operated until retirement in 2003, proudly turning the business over to his sons. Jim enjoyed golfing and fishing, especially in the Michigan Lakes including at the family cottage in Coldwater. He was a skilled woodworker and often built items for his family. In later years Jim spent many hours caring for his yard and doing jigsaw puzzles. He always found his greatest joy in time spent with his family, to whom he was deeply devoted. Jim was a member of St. Josephs Parish, Sylvania, THRA, STAFDA, Bass Unlimited, the Kiwanis Club and Chamber of Commerce, both in Toledo. An honorable and selfless man, he will be lovingly remembered for his constant integrity and placing the needs of others before his own. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of more than 54 years, Karen Kay Stammen; sons, Chris, Gregory (Lori), Todd (Grace) and Brad (Tina) Stammen; grandchildren, Leah, Emily, Chase, Tayelor, James, Andrew, Soleil, Emma, Charlie, and Abby; and siblings, Joseph, Jerry and Tim (Kathie) Stammen. Jim was also preceded in death by siblings, Arnold and David Stammen and Patricia Cherry. Visitation will be Monday from 3-8 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where a scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Services will begin in the funeral home with prayers at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2018 and proceed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5373 Main Street, Sylvania, for 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the church or the American Red Cross.
