James Smith

September 18, 1974 — April 5, 2023

James Duane Smith, 48, of Custar, Ohio passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023. James was born September 18, 1974 in Meadville, PA to Duane and Joanne (Graham) Smith. He graduated from Trapper Creek High School in Montana and worked as a tow motor driver for Vehtek in Bowling Green for 12 years.

James enjoyed spending free time chatting with his friends on Discord and playing Destiny 2. He loved all the friends he played with in his free time. He adored spending time with his four children. James loved his family more than anything. He was all in whether it was playing outside with his boys, wrestling around, doing yard work together, or listening to music and dancing and singing.

He grew up watching Dragon Ball with his son, Nicholas, an animated show they bonded over and talked about frequently. He enjoyed Reese’s cups just like his father, Duane, monster energy zero ultra drinks and a good Chinese buffet. He loved his grandbabies and wanted to see them and play with them always. James and grandson, Colton, loved to mow the lawn together. He took pride in being a grandpa. James will be remembered for being smart, funny, goofy and wise. He cared for everyone else’s happiness. He loved his family very much.

He is survived by his wife, Kristina; children, Lucas, Cayden, Nicholas and Sydney; grandchildren, Averi, Colton and Gracelynn; siblings, Bonnie (Randy), Dawn (Arthur), William “Bill” (Lisa), Jolene and Joe (Adrienne), first wife and best friend, Michelle Bird, and his best friend, Mike Perry, whom he loved and cared for deeply. Mike is a brother from another mother according to James.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles.

Friends and family will be received Monday, April 10, 2023 from 3-7 p.m. at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg, OH (419-874-3133). Burial will be private.
