James Clarence Sandford died Monday evening, April 6, 2015 at Toledo Hospital while enduring complications to his heart. He was 70 years old. He was born on February 8, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio to James Harris and Esther Pauline (Krueger) Sandford. Jim was a graduate of Bowsher High School class of 1964 and in 1965 did his honorable duty and enlisted in the US Navy where he remained in active duty and sailed with the U.S.S. Tutuila Arg-4 until 1969 making him a Vietnam veteran. His dedication grew from there and his services continued as a fire fighter for the Navy Reserve until 1971. Although fishing and hunting were his most favorable hobbies, he also enjoyed country music. Jim spent most of his time with his family. Jim remained a groundskeeper until his death. Surviving is his son James (Connie) Sandford; daughter Anna Marie Sandford; grandchildren Arianna, Damien, James and Jeffrey; sister Ann (Joseph) Marconi; nephews Joe (Charissa) and Nick (Katy); great nieces and nephews Morgan, Mason, Caroline and Colin; and long-time companion Wilma Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Florence Sandford Browning. Friends may visit the family at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) on Thursday after 3 PM where memorial services will follow at 6 PM.
