James J. "Jim" Royster

James J. “Jim” Royster, 75, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 4, 2022 at the Riverview Nursing Home, Oak Harbor.  He was born in Ironton, Ohio, the son of Willie and Mae (Sprouse) Royster.  After high school he entered the U.S. Army and served his country proudly in Vietnam.  Jim married the love of his life, Susan K. (Lazzara) at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton on October 17, 1986.

Jim worked as a machinist starting with Uniroyal which later became Scandura and finally Fenner-Dunlop, where he retired in 2003.  Jim was a proud family man who enjoyed sharing his love for fishing on Lake Erie and his deer hunting skills both around his home and in annual trips to Jackson, Ohio.  For many years, he and Susan enjoyed traveling to Folly Beach, SC where he continued his love of fishing, relaxing on the beach and enjoying the warm sun.  Traveling to Las Vegas was a fun time as well, once there Susan enjoyed the shows and Jim the one-armed bandits!   When Jim was at home he could be found working outdoors in the yard and his garden.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Susan, daughter, Shellene R. Royster and her children, Fernando, Ryan, Kiera and Molly, along with three great grandchildren, son, Ronald L. Royster and his son, Damien, and daughter, Kelly (William) Uhl and their sons, William, Brady, Charlie and Joseph, brother, Robert Royster, sisters, Sharon (Vic Burrows) Tocar and Margaret (Charlie) Clouse.  He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters along with his best friend, George Buzas.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 15, 2022 at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor, Ohio, preceded by visitation starting at 10:00 AM, Friday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Ottawa County, 2424 E.
