James Edward Rose

December 6, 1934 — May 26, 2017

James Edward Rose, Sr., 82 of Toledo, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Ebeid Hospice residence in Sylvania. Originally from Lafayette, Indiana, Jim moved to Toledo after graduating from the University of Notre Dame and accepting a position with Owens Corning. Here he met his future wife of 52 years, Barbara. After a brief move to Newark, Ohio, Jim and his growing family moved back to Toledo where he remained for the rest of his days. There are many things, too many to list here, that describe Jim/Dad and the impact he had on so many people. Chicago Cubs fan, Notre Dame football supporter, Roman Catholic, singer, golfer, martini connoisseur, and all-around great guy are just a few. If you were fortunate enough to have met him, you know what we mean. Most importantly, he was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and role model. His unconditional and unwavering love and support of family was his greatest attribute and source of pride. He was the perfect complement to Barbara and an ever-present example of fatherhood, manhood, and work ethic to his 3 sons. Jim was preceded in death in 2016 by his wife Barbara Rose (Pontsler). He is survived by his 3 sons; Jim, 52, of Walnut Creek, California, Robert Turtle, 51, of Toledo, and Reverend William, 50, of Toledo. 2 Granddaughters, Abigail, 13, and Caroline, 9, of Walnut Creek, California, sister Mary Ann Pahud (Guy) of Indianapolis, sister-in-law Mary James of Reno, Nevada, and brother-in-law Jack Pontsler of Columbus. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 29, 2017 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo. Private burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the remarkable staff and volunteers of Ebeid Hospice. Your dignified, delicate touch and unwavering support of patients and their families during such a vulnerable and emotional time is extraordinary. Also, a special thanks to the staff at St. Anne’s hospital. Your patience and skill provided Jim an opportunity to spend more time with his family. Thank you. Memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church and/or Ebeid Hospice.
