James H. Reiter, age 81 years, of Perrysburg, died January 2, 2022, at St. Clare Commons. He was born July 10, 1940, in Toledo to the late Edward and Bertha (Smoktonowicz) Reiter. Jim graduated from Macomber Vocational High School where he took printing as his trade, working part of his senior year at Krieger Printing, beginning a long career in the printing business. He worked at the Perrysburg Messenger, Detroit News and The Toledo Blade for many years. Jim was a volunteer fireman with the Shoreland Fire Dept., certified as an EMT and firefighter. He also served on several boards and committees including The Blade Federal Credit Union, Toledo Typography Union 63, Recording Secretary and Scale Committee, Recording Secretary of Day and Night Chapels, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Toledo Council of Newspaper Unions. In his free time, Jim enjoyed fishing and boating on the family boat, “Sunny Daze”, dancing with his wife and spending time at the Riverview Yacht Club and Maumee Eagles. Jim also enjoyed traveling, especially wintering in Florida, where he learned woodworking, making bowls for his family. While home in Ohio, he was always doing handy work, yard work and attending auctions. He will also be remembered for being there for his family, his strong will and good sense of humor. Surviving is his wife of more than 61 years, Barbara Ann (Wilson) Reiter; children, Beth (Dean) Manley, Sue (Terry) Gordon, and Robert (Rebecca) Reiter; grandchildren, Erica (Larry) Van Hooser, Michelle Manley, Melissa (Michael) Rader, Brandon (Machensie Nachtrab) Bell, Tyler Gordon, and Barbara Gordon; and nine great grandchildren. Jim was also preceded in death by siblings, Edward, and Theresa. Visitation will be Friday from 3-7 p.m. in the Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg. Funeral services will begin with prayers in the funeral home at 9:45 a.m., Saturday, January 8, 2022, and proceed to St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front St., Perrysburg, for Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
