James Evans Reed

James Evans Reed age 61 of Maumee passed on Wednesday November 25, 2009 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born in Coaldale, PA on September 28, 1948 to James Russell and Doris Mae Evans Reed. Jim was an Army Veteran and was commissioned on June 5th, 1971. He earned his bachelors degree in commerce and engineering at Drexel University. While at Drexel Jim played football and lacrosse. He earned his masters degree in business administration from The University of Toledo. He was employed at The Ford Motor Company for 36 years until his retirement in 2005. He also served on the Springfield Township Zoning Board. Jim was a 32nd degree mason, Northern Light Lodge; Past Master of Calumet Lodge #612 and a member of The Ohio Lacrosse Association and American Legion Post #320, Maumee. Jim coached lacrosse at St. Johns High School and Sylvania City Schools where he led both schools to state championships, St. Johns in 2004, and Sylvania in 2007 and 2008. In 2004 he was named the Division II Coach of the Year and was Head Coach of the Ohio North All-Star Team. He was instrumental in the growth of lacrosse in Northwest Ohio and was inducted into the Lacrosse Hall of Fame, Ohio Chapter, in June 2009. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Cindy K. Halle Reed; son; James J. Reed; daughters, Jennifer Mark Knippen, Lauren Colin Schroeder, Christine Reed and grandson, Colton James Knippen. Also surviving is his sister, Marcia Dave Hamilton; brother, Hayden J. Reed and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home 501 Conant St. Maumee on Tuesday December 1, 2009 from 1:00 pm until the time of Service at 6:00 pm.
