James R. Plantz, Sr., 61, of Genoa, died unexpectedly at St. Charles-Mercy Hospital, Oregon, Ohio, Saturday evening, May 2, 2009. Jim was born June 9, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, to Kenneth and Estella Fredrick Plantz. On August 16, 1969, in Genoa he married Carol A. Koenker, who survives him. Jim was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Genoa. He loved all Genoa sports and attended all of his kids and grandchildrens athletic practices and games. He was the Genoa Lightning Softball teams biggest fan as well as an OSU and Steelers fan. He had coached baseball for Genoa Little League for many years. His other interests included collecting and trading baseball cards and traveling and talking to people. Jim especially loved his family and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Carol, Jim is survived by his sons, Jim Katie Plantz, Jr., Tim Alana Plantz, Paul Sofia Plantz, Greg Julie Plantz, and Rob Brittany Plantz. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Haley, Jaynie, Jake Bobo, Walter, Violet, Jon, Cheyenne, and Savannah. His parents preceded him in death. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Genoa. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009, in St. Johns United Church of Christ, Genoa. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the Genoa Lightning Softball Team or St. Johns UCC.
