James (Jim) Mattison Pennington, 72, of Holland, OH passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. Jim was born in Leslie County, KY. He graduated from Tecumseh High School and went on to get his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky. While at the University of Kentucky, he enrolled in the Army ROTC. He later received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Dayton. He worked at Williams International for 40 years until his retirement. Jim was a devoted husband, parent and grandparent. He was also a dedicated member of his community. He coached his children’s sports teams and held different volunteer positions within the Hartland Area Youth Athletic Association. He was an active member of his church, teaching Sunday school and was a member of the Men’s Club at Hartland United Methodist Church. He supported local charities, most recently Sleep in Heavenly Peace, participating in several bed builds. To say Jim was an avid fisherman feels like an understatement. To say Jim loved fishing, also feels like an understatement. Some of his best memories were of fishing with his father, children, grandchildren and fishing buddies. Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years Sally Pennington, his sister Rebecca Nelson, his children Jill (Christopher) Kaeser and Melissa (Paul) Gagacki, and his grandchildren Alexander Kaeser, Vivianna Kaeser, Matthew Gagacki, Jane Gagacki and Mae Gagacki. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John A and Anna Lee Pennington, and his son, Matthew Pennington. A visitation with Jim’s family will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at the Walker Funeral home, 5155 W Sylvania Ave, Toledo, OH from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Funeral services will be held at 4:00pm with Pastor Tom Rand officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Sylvania First United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
