James Richard Patrick

James Richard Patrick, M.D. died suddenly February 15, 2023, in McLaren St. Luke's Hospital of a myocardial infarction. Dr. Patrick was born February 10, 1931, in Athens, Ohio to James Ruey and Vivian (Morton) Patrick.

He graduated Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, New Hampshire; Ohio University (Phi Beta Kappa), Athens, Ohio, and Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut. He completed his internship and residency (chief resident) in pediatrics at the Yale New Haven Medical Center, New Haven, Connecticut. He also completed his residency in pathology at that institution as well. It was during that time that he met his wife, Beverly (Lambert) Patrick and they married on September 10, 1955.

Dr. Patrick was the founding Chairman of the Department of Pathology. He was Professor Emeritus of Pathology and Professor of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Ohio (currently the University of Toledo College of Medicine). Also, he served in many clinical roles at the Medical College of Ohio Hospital. In 1984, he was elected Lucas County Coroner, serving nine terms, and was the Chief Forensic Pathologist until his retirement in 2019. He was on the board of the Ohio State Coroner's Association from 1986-2018 and was association president in 1989-1990. He was board certified in pediatrics, pathology and forensic pathology.

He was a former member of the Board of Trustees of Maumee Valley Country Day School. He also served on the Lucas County Democratic Party Central Committee.

His interests included his family and friends, reading history, current events and politics, and anything technology related. He had developed a new hobby in photography. His wife, Beverly, predeceased him on January 16, 2017. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy P. Greeley (Charles) and Susanna P. Hedblom (Lawrence), son, Dr. James L. Patrick, and sister, Mary P. Moll.

Visitation will be held this Friday, March 3, 2023, between 3p.m. and 6p.m. at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee. Burials services will be private.
