James Park

PARK James R. Dick James Richard Park, 88, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Kingston Residence of Sylvania. James, best known as Dick, was born December 13, 1922 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to Paul W. and Mildred M. Hall Park . Dick attended LaGrange Elementary School, Woodward High School and the University of Toledo. During World War II he answered the call of his country and served in its Armed Forces as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. He became a night fighter pilot and flying the Grumman F6F Hellcat was attached to several different aircraft carriers in the Pacific. A strong and moral man Dick was a member of First Congregational Church in Toledo, Ohio, was a 32nd. Degree Mason of Robinson Locke Lodge, a Shriner and a Jester. An avid lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed shooting skeet and trap at the Adams Conservation Club where he once held the title of Club Champion. Dick was president of the Toledo Automatic Screw Machine Company, retiring in 2009. He was a gifted tool and cam designer that integrated his creations with their automatic machinery. Dick was known for his ability to automatically produce component parts that many others looked upon as an impossibility. He was also a perfectionist and the production of flawless parts was always the order of the day at his company. Dick is survived by stepson, Steven Sorge, and wife, Marcia; their children, Beth Chris Baroncini, Steve, and Leigh Kevin Beining, and Steve and Marcias grandchildren, Jessica, Jacob, Marc, Brian and Mara; step son, Martin McCabe, and his children, Matthew and Megan; brother, Paul W. Park Jr. Gloria; nieces, Paula Blair Gay, Joyce Jeffrey Wachter; nephews, James P. Jennifer Park; Thomas R. Park, Barry L. Becky Vincent. Dick was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Sorge Park; his second wife, Joanne McCabe Park; his sister, Mildred Vincent, and his parents, Paul W. Park Sr. and Mildred Hall Park. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff and nurses at the Kingston Residence of Sylvania and Dicks friend and caregiver, Susan Carol Starkey. Family and friends will be received on Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. noon at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd.., Toledo, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church Organ Restoration Fund, 2315 Collingwood Blvd., Toledo, Ohio 43620.
