James Oberst, 59, of Port Clinton, OH, and formerly of Fremont, OH, passed away after a long battle with cancer, on Thursday, September 5, 2013. He was born on February 3, 1954 in Port Clinton. Jim graduated from Fremont Ross in 1972. He married Cheryl Cherie Slauterbeck on April 11, 1980 in Fremont. He was self employed owning Fueling Station Contractors as well as a jack-of-all-trades. Jim was an avid NASCAR and Sprint car fan. He loved being on the water; boating, fishing and island hopping, along with camping and spending time with family and friends. He loved to entertain, the more friends around the better. The most recent light of Jims life was his granddaughter, Vincenza Vinnie, who was an inspiration and brought him great strength. Jim will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include his wife Cherie, his mother Susie Michael Oberst, Fremont, Daughter: Ashley Jason Brish, Toledo; Granddaughter: Vincenza Rose Brish. He was preceded in death by his step-father: Phil Oberst & father-in-law: Don Slauterbeck. Visitation will be from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, and Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 10am until time of services at 11am. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery at a later date. . Contributions in memory of Jim can be given to the Vincenza Brish Educational Trust Fund or St Johns Lutheran Church, Fremont.
