James H. Mugler died peacefully on June 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born with a strong dedication to public service and lived his entire life providing and protecting. On April 28, 1936, he came into this world to his parents, Carl and Fern (Cronenberger) Mugler in Toledo. He attended Libbey High School but by the age of 17 he was on his way to serve his country in the Korean War. He enlisted into the United States Air Force at an early age. After he returned, he went back to school to get his diploma and even took some classes at the University of Toledo.
While he was on leave, he met his beloved wife Charlene, and they enjoyed over 43 years of marriage together before her passing.
Also known as Jim, Mugs, and Mugsy, he worked for a short time in the OI mailroom until he saw an opening with the Toledo Fire Department. Appointed to the Toledo Fire Department on May 4, 1962, Jim faithfully served the citizens of Toledo as a dedicated firefighter at stations 3, 15, 16, 21 and 24 until his retirement on September 1, 1989.
Jim was an elite fisherman and could catch even the most difficult fish. He taught his sons all of his fishing secrets and it was a time of great memories and lessons they will not soon forget. Jim also loved camping, the outdoors, pool, and ping pong. He was even known to run a pool hustle when he was short on cash as a youngster. Occasionally you might find him watching football or hockey, but his true personality came out in nature.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Jim (Melissa), Mike (Karen), Mark, Jon (Nora); his grandchildren, Alison, Michael Jr., Jacob, Troy, Matt, Kelsey, Adam, Mandy, Danielle, Robert, Kaitlin, Matt; his siblings, Pete (Linda), Mary (Steve); and 9 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Carl and Fern; his wife, Charlene; and grandson, Eric.
