James Miller

James Alfred Miller, 91, of Rossford, Ohio passed away peacefully Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. Jim was born on July 21, 1929 in Rossford, Ohio to Melvin Bradley and Sara Louise (Southward) Miller. He grew up in the Rossford area and graduated from Rossford High School. He joined the Army in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1947. He was then drafted in the Navy in 1950 and honorably discharged in 1951. He received the WWII Victory Medal. Jim enjoyed football at Rossford High, swimming, boating on Lake Erie, small game hunting, camping with friends and family. He played handball until he was 65 years old and golfed later on. He worked as a Tool & Die maker all of his life, for a number of companies in the area, both large and small, hourly and salaried, union and non-union. He worked part time until age 85. He received a patent for his invention of thinning material of apart, to accept a screw thread, the rest of the part being thicker material. He was an Apprentice Training Instructor at Owens Technical College for 18 years. Jim married Dolores “Dolly” Ann (Mazurek) June 5, 1948 and they shared 58 years together. From this union were three children: James E. Miller, Swanton, Marcia (Tom) Kovacik, Toledo and Vickie (Guy) Hielscher, Alliance NE. Jim is survived by his three children and six grandchildren, along with seven great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry of Toledo and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dolly in 2004; sister, Rosemary; brothers-in-law, Ted and Walter Mazurek, Steve Duly and Nick Pellegrino, and sisters-in-law, Rita Mazurek and Celia Duly. Also cherishing his memory is his loving companion, Mary Hill. Services for James will be private. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, Rossford. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the loving care given to him. Memorial contributions may be made in James’s name to Rossford Methodist Church, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or a charity of the donor’s choice.
