James Eugene Mcewen, Jr.

James Eugene McEwen, Jr. age 90 of Ottawa Hills passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015 in Mercy St. Anne Hospital.  He was born March 24, 1925 in Findlay, Ohio to James and Mayme (Fout) McEwen, Sr.  Jim was a 1943 graduate of Macomber High School where he excelled in basketball.  After high school he enlisted in the Navy where he served for 3 years.  While in the Navy, Jim was part of the Navy Baseball team and was the only one to single  off the great Dizzy Dean.  After serving in the armed forces Jim graduated from Ohio University in 1949 with a B.S. in Commerce, and began his career with Electric Autolite.  On August 12, 1950 he married the former Doris Warren whom he met in college.  Jim was the Director of Internal Auditing at Autolite/Prestolite and various international and US companies associated with Allied Signal located around the globe such as Brazil, New York, Canada, Mexico and California.   He retired in 1984 after 35 years with essentially the same company to pursue a life of golf, tennis and travel.  A lifelong avid sports enthusiast, he was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes.  An avid golfer he shot a hole in one and at age 77 shot his age.  A former member of Sylvania Country Club, he was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and the Toledo Junior Chamber of Commerce where he was a member of the Board of Directors serving as treasurer and fund raiser. Preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Pickett, he is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Doris; daughter, Amy (Perry) Page; grandchildren, Jessica (Austin) Grau, Justin Page and Beth Pickett; great-granddaughter, Lucy Grau who was the light of his life; sisters, JoAnn McCloskey, Marilyn Reeves,  and Shirley Douglas; and brother, Donald (Garnet) McEwen. A memorial service is planned for a later date.  The family suggests memorials to Epworth United Methodist Church of Ottawa Hills, or a charity of your choice.  Arrangements by the Walker Funeral Home and condolences may be sent to the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com
