James Peter Mann of Toledo, Ohio, passed from this life into the eternal presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in the early hours of Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, after a 3-year battle with Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer.
Peter was born on February 13th, 1987, in Noblesville, IN, and moved to Toledo with his parents and siblings the same year. He graduated from Harvest Lane Christian School (K-8) in 2001 and Cardinal Stritch High School in 2005. He briefly attended Owens Community College before joining the family business, Radon Environmental Services, Inc. In 2020 he became co-owner of the company with his sister, Erinn (Mann) Wilson.
At age 13, Peter and his father, James, began a tradition of camping all over America for weeks at a time each summer or fall. Several of the trips followed the Mann family migration from Plymouth Colony in 1636 to Connecticut before finally settling in Western New York. Other trips would involve tracing out nation’s history from Revolutionary War sites to Civil War battlefields. Peter and James loved the natural beauty of our country, traveling from the Adirondack and the Green Mountains of New England to the mighty Rockies in the West; from the most remote areas of the Allagash Wilderness in Northern Maine to the endless skies of Montana. The National Parks were always high on their list. They loved visiting the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, driving the “Going-To-The-Sun-Road” in Glacier, and the quiet beauty of Joshua Tree.
Peter was the tech “savvy” member of the family. He utilized powerful software to streamline office procedures that were essential as the business grew. It was a marvel even to others in the field. He had a wealth of knowledge in many other areas as well, including cooking.
Cooking was another of his joys. He loved the chemistry of cooking, which included putting a dish together with a few pantry items, spices and whatever else he could find to complete the dish. His skills were most utilized during Thanksgiving, as he and his brother continued the tradition of their mother in providing the most delicious meal for the family. They started at 6 am and worked right up to mealtime, staying on schedule, yet still finding time to socialize with the family. He was amazing!
Peter loved game night with the family. He was the one who read and patiently explained the complicated instructions so that the rest of the family could understand. His quiet and subtle humor was a source of joy and laughter as we gathered for dinner and games.
He loved being an Uncle to his 3 nieces: Ella, Meleah and Taylor. He would always find just the right gift at Christmas or for birthdays. He would then spend time playing with them as if he were still a child himself.
Peter was the youngest sibling by more than 10 years, yet he developed a deep and close relationship with both Michael and Erinn. He spent his final weeks with his brother and sister by his side, in which they talked shop, Ohio State football, cooking, and sharing stories from their childhood. The final days they attended to him faithfully: keeping vigil, keeping his spirits up through conversation, prayer and loving embraces.
He was truly a very special young man; soft spoken, gentle, kind and generous to a fault. He will leave a large hole in our family as we grieve and then, by God’s grace, heal from this tremendous loss.
Peter is survived by his father, James R. Mann, his brother Michael Mann (Ericka), his sister Erinn (Mann) Wilson (Brian), nieces Ella Wilson, Meleah Mann and Taylor Mann, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Peter was predeceased by his mother Sunday Sue (Everhart) Mann, and grandparents James and Eloise Mann and Richard and Thelma Everhart.
