James S. Ludwick, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away December 7, 2020 at the age of 100. He was living in Pflugerville, Texas, and was a former resident of Maumee, Ohio and Rochester, Michigan. James was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 78 years, Ethel, Celesta Ludwick (Brauneck) both of his parents Claude and Mary Clyda Ludwick, his sister, Etha Mae, and his infant son, Doug. James was a graduate of Monclova High School (1938) and Bowling Green State University (Cum Laude 1942) after which he joined the Navy where he earned the rank of Lieutenant Commander serving as a Code Breaker during WW II where his unit broke the Japanese Code. He was called back into the Navy for two years during the Korean War and served in the Naval Security Agency. After the war, he worked as a CPA with Arthur Anderson for 10 years and then retired after more than 30 years with RP Scherer Corporation where he served as Executive VP and Chief Financial Officer. James was involved in his community in Rochester, Michigan where he served 12 years on the Rochester Community School Board, 4 of which he was president. He and his wife, Ethel, and their 3 children were active members of St Paul Methodist Church where James served as Financial Officer. James is survived by his three children, Dianne Ludwick Shaver of Pflugerville, Texas, Dan and Linda (Haworth) Ludwick of Tucson, Arizona, and Dave and Bev (Waites) Ludwick of Peck, Michigan. James was a kind, generous person whose life philosophy was, “…to whom much is given, much is required.” He lived his life following that belief which he learned from his father, Reverend Claude J Ludwick who was pastor of the Monclova EUB/United Methodist church for several years. Family and friends will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee, on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 from 10:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Roth Memorial Cemetery, Maumee, OH. The service will be live-streamed beginning at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cherry Street Mission in Toledo are appreciated.
