James W. Long, age 75, of Northwood, Ohio passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. Jim was born on February 11, 1942 to Thomas and Cecile (Owen) Long in Ridgway, PA. Jim entered into the United States Navy after high school in 1960, serving for over 20 years and retiring as a Senior Chief. He married his beloved wife, Charlean (Lucas) Long on August 7, 1965 in Bowie, Maryland and together they raised their three children. After the Navy, he worked for Davis Bessie/First Energy as an Electric Maintenance Supervisor for another 20 years. Jim was a member of Mainstreet Church, Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and worked in the nursery, and also attended Monclova Road Baptist Church. Jim was affectionately known to everyone as “Papa”. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Charlean; children, Michele (John) Mitchell, Jacqueline (Dennis) Braden, and Charles (Emily) Long; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Alice DeCecchis. Friends will be received at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 701 N. Main St. Walbridge, Ohio 43465 (419-666-3121) on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 2:00-8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 at Mainstreet Church, 5465 Moline Martin Road, Walbridge, Ohio 43465 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Thomas Caldwell, officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Township Cemetery, Millbury.
