James Lee DeFriece, 90, of Port Clinton, OH passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021 at his residence. He was born on September 23, 1931 in Alvarado, VA to James Lewis and Millie Ann (Smith) DeFriece. He served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police, PFC, in Germany and Austria from 1953-1956. On January 26, 1958 James married Janice Lou Walls, and she preceded him in death on October 5, 2021. James worked for Ohio Edison and was a property landlord for years. He also owned and operated a campground in Loudenville, OH for 3 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bee keeping, telling his military stories, farming, working on cars, especially his car, named Johnny Cash, who he was a big fan of. James is survived by his four daughters, Margie Roberts, Donna Ninke, Mary Jones, and Martha Phillips, 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, many nieces & nephews, and siblings, Dallas DeFriece, June DeFriece, and Shelby Peto. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson, Steven Phillips, brothers, Glen DeFriece, Delmos DeFriece, and infant brother, Burton DeFriece, sisters, Christine Gerogosian and Geneva Hopkins, and nieces & nephews. Visitation for James will be Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 2-8 p.m. at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St, Port Clinton, where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 5, 2021. Pastor Earl Taylor will be officiating, assisted by Jeffrey Jones. Burial will follow in McPherson Cemetery, Clyde, OH.
