James Kent Allen

ALLEN James Kent James K. Allen, age 86, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Oakleaf Village in Sylvania Township. Jim was born in Toledo to Waldo and Eva Allen on October 31, 1922. He graduated from Waite High School in 1940 and began taking classes at the University of Toledo before enlisting in the US Army during WWII. He served in Africa, Sicily and Italy for a total of 33 months. Jim began a career with General Motors after returning from the war. He retired from GM in 1987 as Superintendent of Material and Production Control after 42 faithful years. Even with a busy career and young family, Jim, together with his wife Pat, built their Sylvania Township home from the ground up. He was a member of the Scottish Rite 32 Degree, and Paragon Masonic Lodge #335. He enjoyed golf and bowling but especially loved working in his yard. He was a collector of GM miniature cars and had accumulated an impressive collection over the years. Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Patricia; children, Sharon Squire Robert, Kent Allen Elizabeth, and James D. Allen Connie; grandchildren, Ryan Squire Elizabeth, Troy Squire, Lindsey Long David, and Andrew, Jacob, Rachel, Allison, Michael, Brianne, and McKenzie Allen; great-grandchildren, Christian and Anna Squire, and Benjamin Long; sisters-in-law, Vera and Gloria Allen; cousin, Margretta Weigand; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Richard Allen. Visitation will be Friday, January 9, 2009 from 2-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where funeral services will follow Saturday at 11:00am.
