James C. Kehlmeier Jr. passed into eternal life early in the morning, Saturday, October 17, 2026.
Jim was born in Columbus, Ohio, on October 9, 1955, to the late James C. Kehlmeier Sr. and Anna Louise Kehlmeier. Shortly thereafter, the family relocated to Grange St in Oregon, Ohio. His childhood years were filled with fishing, boating and enjoying all his friends while living on the lake. During Jim's high school years, a house fire brought the family to Genoa, where he went on to build his life and raise his family.
Jim graduated from Genoa High School in 1973 and never stopped being a true Comet. After graduation, he married Bobbie Dunn, and together they raised three children: Sara, Emily, and Nate. Although their marriage ended, they remained friends and came together for their family on many occasions.
In August 2010, Jim married Tina Johnson, who survives him. Together, they traveled to many places and enjoyed their retirement. An avid golfer, Jim loved playing golf, watching golf, and talking about golf. Although an unfortunate accident ended his time on the course in 2019, his love for the game continued through Nate. They spoke often about golf, and their knowledge of the game and local courses led to detailed conversations about specific holes, shots, and which club to use.
Golf may have been his game, but Jim loved Genoa sports just as much. Before his accident, he could be found at almost any Comet game and until just a few weeks ago, he was still cheering on the Comets under the Friday night lights.
While we are heartbroken his journey has come to an end, we find peace in knowing that he is no longer in pain.
Jim is survived by his wife, Tina; his daughters, Sara (John) Houghtaling and Emily Kehlmeier; his son, Nate Kehlmeier; his granddaughters, Ava and Addy Houghtaling; his stepdaughter, Sarah (Patrick) Kindt; his stepson, Jason Calmes; his step-granddaughters, Samantha and Meredith Kindt; his brothers, Stan (Darlene) Harrison and Carl Harrison; multiple nieces and nephews; his former wife, Bobbie (Tracy) Kehlmeier; and his beloved cat, Kaia.
A huge thank you to the staff at Mercy Perrysburg and Hospice of NW Ohio. Your thoughtfulness to my dad and our family made this last week much easier to handle.
The family will receive friends at the Robinson Walker Funeral Home, 501 West Street, Genoa, Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 2:00 pm until sharing of memories at 6:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Smile Train, an organization close to the family because Jim's granddaughter was blessed by its services.
