Rok passed away peacefully at Toledo Hospital on July 27, 2024 with his family at his side.
Rok was born on August 1, 1959 in Lima, OH to Jack and Marian Irwin. He graduated from Norwalk High School in 1977. He graduated from Trine University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to earn his MBA from American University. Mike was bilingual speaking fluent Spanish.
Rok’s work passion was always building cars. Rok worked for General Motors and for GM affiliates for over thirty years. His greatest work memories were working at the GM Lordstown Assembly Plant as the head of line engineering. Early in his career, he lived in Brownsville TX and crossed the border everyday to a GM trim facility in Matamoros Mexico.
Roc was an avid boating enthusiast, enjoying fishing and sailing throughout his life. He was an active sporting fan of all Cleveland professional sports teams, Indians, Browns, and Cavaliers were all among his favorites. Let us not forget there was no confusion as to his college football team of choice…. The Ohio State Buckeyes! Rok was a black lab owner his entire adult life and he is survived by perhaps his favorite of all time Atlas.
He was a complex, mathematical, and solitary person. Rok’s passion for his family was unwavering. He was taken from us too soon and will be dearly missed. In his own words late in his life, he commented, “if I had it all over to do again, I’m not sure I would change a thing.” We believe that is a life well lived.
Rok is survived by his brother Scott, sister-in-law Jane (Roman), nephews Michael (Madison) Irwin, William (Hali) Irwin, Thomas (Brooke) Irwin and great nephews Jack Irwin and Bowen Irwin.
Services for Rok will be private. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Walker Funeral Homes. Condolences may be made online to the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
