James O. Holcombe, 72, of Genoa, died Monday afternoon, October 10, 2011, in the Genoa Retirement Village. Jim was born June 21, 1939, in Fremont, Ohio, to Elwood Ty and Irene Butler Holcombe. He married Sandra Sayler-Adkins on May 7, 1983, in Genoa and she survives. Jim worked for the Maintenance Department for the Village of Genoa for many years and after retirement worked for Genoa Chevrolet doing car detailing. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and was a member of the Genoa American Legion Post #324 for 40 years. Jim was a very detailed person, especially working on his house, yard and cars. He was a jokester, who loved to make people laugh. Jim was an avid NASCAR fan, Tony Stewart being his favorite driver. He also enjoyed attending the races at Fremont Speedway. Jim was very attentive to his family and very involved in their lives. In addition to his wife, Sandy, Jim is survived by his mother, Irene of Genoa, son, Tim Denise Holcombe of Napoleon, stepsons, Dennis Tonya Adkins of Clay Center and Ken Kim Adkins of Genoa, eight step grandchildren, five step-great grandchildren, and sister, Judy Mel Hoeft of Genoa. His father, Ty, preceded him in death. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2011, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 13, 2011, in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Clay Township Cemetery with a military graveside service by the Genoa American Legion. The family has suggested memorials for Jim to the Genoa American Legion Post #324 or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.
