James Robert Hentges

James “Jim” Robert Hentges, age 63, made his transition to the next life with his loving wife, Maggie, by his side January 29, 2022.

Born April 19, 1958 in Toledo, Ohio to Robert and Alverna Hentges, Jim was raised by his mom to be a lifelong servant to Christ. A great example of His love, Jim served his community in countless ways. A teacher for 36 years, Jim shared his love of mathematics and constant learning with hundreds of students. As a soccer, track, and cross country coach he instilled a passion of sportsmanship and fair play on countless student athletes on and off the field.

On April 1, 2020 Jim was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Rather than shy away, Jim ran towards life with all his might. Jim and Maggie spent every second they could with their family and friends and shared their love and passion for life with all.

Among those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife and lifelong companion Maggie Hentges; his children Megan (Brent) Cornwell, Rob (Bailey) Hentges, and Nick (Elysia) Hentges; his grandchildren Parker, Logan, Sky, and Vivienne; and his grandpuppies Rainier and Loki. He is joining his mother and father as well as his sister, Denise, in heaven. Per his wishes his body was donated to UTMC for research.

The family will receive any family and friends on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 3-8 pm at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E South Boundary St, Perrysburg (419-874-3133) . A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 5, at 11:00 am at Hope Lutheran Church 2201 Secor Rd, Toledo, OH 43606 .
