James Edgar Heninger

September 11, 1929 — January 3, 2017

James Edgar Heninger, son of Mable and Louis Heninger of East Toledo was born on September 11, 1929, the fifth of seven children. He passed away quietly Tuesday at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg, attended by his family. Jim was a graduate of Macomber High School where he learned his Pattern Making Trade. He served as the company carpenter in the US Army in Louisiana and Texas. He met his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Holder (Betty) while on leave from the service. They married in 1956 and celebrated 60 years last January. After his discharge from the service, he came back to Toledo and returned to his pattern making career and started a family. Jim and Betty have four children; Victoria (Dan) Flahie, James (Kim) Heninger, Timothy Heninger and Joy Heninger-Smith. Jim was proud that he was able to send all of his children to college as he and Betty never had that opportunity. Jim bought Clinton Pattern Works in 1969 and expanded the business to include his two sons. He owned his own company but was always home by 5:00 for dinner with the family. Jim prided himself on being able to balance work and family. He instilled a great work ethic in his children by taking them to work with him on Saturday mornings to help “clean up” the shop. Jim was a 32nd degree Mason and a member for 65 years. (Paragon Lodge #788) and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Shriners and volunteered as a driver to the Shrine Hospitals for many years. He served as the Worthy Patron for the Eastern Stars with Betty and he also served as a Salvation Army board member. Jim and Betty traveled extensively from Australia, to Europe and all over the states and the Caribbean. They especially loved going to warm, sunny places during the winter. Jim enjoyed bowling, golf and reading. A typical summer afternoon would find him in the hammock with a book at their lake house on Lime Lake. Jim was a charter member of Advent Lutheran Church in Sylvania where he served as Church President many times. When Jim and Betty moved to Holland, they joined Providence Lutheran Church where they have been active for the past 20 years. Jim was preceded in death by most of his other siblings; Betty (Ray) Ludeman, Helen (Fritz) Ludeman, Lawrence (Doris) Heninger, Carol (Tom) Temple and Joyce Heninger. His sister, Bernice (Heninger) Nigh continues to live near Seattle, Washington. He is survived by his devoted family including his wife and four children, his 9 grandchildren: Nicholas Flahie, Brian Flahie, Kevin (Brittani) Flahie, Tyler (Natasha) Heninger, Taylor Heninger, Kelsey Smith, Zachary Smith, Anna Smith and Margaret Smith, and his two great grandchildren Bentley Flahie and Alice Heninger. Jim’s calm demeanor and steady presence will be greatly missed by his family. He was always there to oversee what you were working on and comment “That’s not the way I would do it.” Friends will be received on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 3:00 - 9:00 P.M. at Neville Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, 7438 Airport Highway in Holland (419-865-8879) where Masonic services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Providence Lutheran Church, 8131 Airport Hwy also in Holland. The family requests that remembrances be in the form of donations to either Providence Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
