James “Jim” Walter Gutek, 76, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away suddenly on January 31, 2023. He was born on March 1, 1946, in Flint, Michigan, to his late parents Walter and Mary Phyllis (Emmons) Gutek, where he was raised alongside his three siblings.
Jim graduated from Flint Southwestern High School in 1964. He obtained his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University before beginning his sales career in commercial wholesale distribution. A focused, hardworking, and dedicated man, he was proud to start his own business in Northwood, OH, named “Gutek Pipe & Supply”, where he managed his company until his retirement in 2017. He married his then-wife, Holly, in 1980, raising their three children together.
Sometimes known as “Jimmy” or “Pops”, he was both an avid golfer and reader. Even in his later years he would hit the links with his children on a nice day. He enjoyed everything sports related, but his greatest allegiance was to University of Michigan football. He never hesitated to call his children, especially on a fall weekend to talk about the game and share the most recent sports updates. He brought comfort to his family in that they knew he was always there for them. His daily check-ins will be missed. Deep down, Jim was a natural provider and a generous man, who worked very hard to support those around him. He was a special individual and will be missed dearly by his family.
Jim is survived by his children, Michelle Gutek, Ben Gutek, Amanda Gutek, Kyle Gutek; sisters, Patti Tinetti-Dost, Valerie; brother, Denny Gutek; ex-wife, Holly Gutek. He was preceded in death by his parents. All services are being handled privately by the family. Condolences can be sent to the family directly at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
