James Edward Gebhart (aka "Slim"), age 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Maumee, Ohio on April 18, 2026 with his loving family by his side.
James was born April 6, 1940 to Virginia and Paul Gebhart. He attended Libbey High School and practiced his faith at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Toledo. He went on to serve in the US Navy from 1959-1963 as a Naval 2nd Class boiler man, and was deployed to the Bay of Pigs on a destroyer during the Cuban Missile Crisis. As the greatest fan of jazz and big band music you'd ever meet, he always made sure Stan Kenton or Count Basie was played at maximum volume.
He is survived by his six children: Scott (Shawna), Christine (Sean McCarthy), Jeffrey, Kevin (Michelle), Bradley, and Ryan, his grandchildren Nicholas, Lindsay, Allison, Jared, Autumn, and Kyle, and his great-granddaughter Shay.
Per James' request, there will be no service at this time. The family would like to thank the hospice team of NW Ohio and his nurse Lindsey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of NW Ohio.
