James H. Gagnon

January 4, 1927 — September 13, 2022

James H. Gagnon, age 95 passed away peacefully on September 13, 2022 in the Ebeid Hospice Inpatient unit. He was born January 4, 1927 in Earl Park, Indiana to Herman and Velma Gagnon. After graduation from high school he served in the army in World War II stationed in Japan . He married the former Doris Maze on August 26. 1950 in Indiana. Jim spent 30 years with the railroad retiring as a freight agent in 1974. After retirement he sold monuments and markers in the Toledo area. He attended church daily, was a lifetime golfer and loved to travel. Jim was a charter member of American Legion Post #455 in Earl Park, Indiana. His love of people enabled him to plan social events for widows and widowers like himself which included dinners, dances and trips. For decades he collected birthdates of anyone he ran into and then would call that person on their birthday. This hobby was documented on CBS News “On the Road” with Steve Hartman.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; and granddaughter-in-law Keli Baker. Surviving are his children, Debbie (Doug) Baker, Terry (Chris) Gagnon and Teresa (Keith) Meredith; grandchildren Scott (Tori) , Sean and Lisa Baker, and Ian Gagnon; step-grandchildren Chad Meredith and Jonathan (Rebecca), Earl and Bridget Beebe; 6 great-grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; siblings Patricia Gagnon and Donald (Robin) Gagnon; extended family Dawn Conrad and family and Ken Gillie and family; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services and burial will take place in Indiana. The family suggests memorials to your local Wounded Warrior Project or Honor Flight. Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, Perrysburg has assisted the family and condolences may be shared with the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com
